Eaton Gardens have been open to the public
since 1845, at certain times of the year to raise money for
a host of deserving causes. Only two world wars, Army tenure
of the estate and demolition of the vast Victorian Hall, have
interrupted this fine tradition.
When the Waterhouse Hall was
demolished in the early 1960’s the chapel and stables
were retained. In 1971 Viola Duchess of Westminster converted
part of the stables into a reception area reflecting the splendour
of past times. Oil paintings adorn the walls, whilst photographs
and other memorabilia recall past members of the Grosvenor
family. It was the Duchess’ wish that as many people
as possible should see the Long Room, and its main use was
therefore as a venue for Charity events. This practice is
continued by the present Duke and Duchess.
Although the Gardens are only open three times a year, the
Long Room is available for Charities to host fundraising events
throughout the year. For further information please contact
the Estate Office.
Enjoy
your visit and please return again.
